Overview:

         The Cowboys, as they're normally called, were originally standard Inner Sphere BattleArmor purchased as surplus from the Lyran Alliance. The Taurians wanted something for use in the Special Asteroid Support Forces, and of course quickly looked to the purchased BattleArmor as a way of making their 5,000 man force even more deadly than before. But traditional BattleArmor is not known for endurance in space, so the standard armor was taken to Taurus Territorial Industries, the developer of the Constable Combat Exoskeleton, for refitting.

Capabilities:

         Unwilling to change the weapons and maneuverability of the standard BattleArmor, TTI left those aspects of the Cowboy alone. They did however take some of its armor away. Such was done carefully, and while they did it they worked to give it a look distinctive to the Concordat that showed off their frontier ideals. In fact, it bears resemblance to the inspiration of its moniker, the Cowboys that are still seen throughout Concordat space. After the armor was taken away, they replaced its mass with a large fuel tank, extended life support, and an extra power pack that give it increased endurance in space, making it much better for its assumed role. The jump jets that the standard BattleArmor once used were replaced by far more controllable ones, like those used by the Arcologist construction teams, for use in space, though they are still powerful enough to lift the suit while under the effects of gravity.

Variants:

         Like the standard Inner Sphere Battle Armor, the Cowboys can mount standard lasers, machine guns, flamers, and even a single missile tube with up to 4 missiles. They are also sometimes seen with lighter recoilless rifles. They are most often seen with lasers however, as their lack of recoil generates less difficulties in space, their primary habitat.

Deployment

         The first runs of the Space Cowboy went to the SASF only, but in the decades since the design has become common throughout the Taurian Concordat. Used by space-based concerns, they are often sighted by travellers entering that region of space.
